How To Get The Potty Stains Out Of Your Carpeting

Blog

When you have kids, you become a professional stain remover. You learn all kinds of tricks to clean up the messes that your kids make in your bathrooms, kitchen, and even your carpeting. Here, you'll find a few tips that can help you keep these stains out of the carpeting with ease.

Cleaning Technique

It will happen at some point, and for some, it will happen often – pee and poo in the carpeting. If you're lucky, that's as far as the mess made it – some kids might accidentally make a mess of the walls, but that's a whole different level of mess cleaning.

To get this type of mess out of your carpeting, you're going to need a few supplies:

  • Styrofoam plate
  • Scissors
  • Masking tape
  • White vinegar
  • Sponge
  • Very warm water
  • Rubber gloves
  • Lots of paper towels
  • Plastic spoon

The Styrofoam plate is used for spot cleanings – if there are just spots here and there that you need to clean, the plate can be used to prevent the spots from spreading as you work to clean them.

Cut a hole in the center of the plate that is slightly larger than the spot you're working to remove.

Use the masking tape to tape the plate to the carpeting around the hole that you've cut.

Put on the rubber gloves and use the plastic spoon to scoop up any solids off of the carpeting. The plastic spoon will give you some control, but has enough flex to help to prevent pushing the solids down deeper into the carpet.

Mix a cup of white vinegar with a half-gallon of very warm water.

Dip the sponge into the mixture and wring it out slightly – you want it wet, but not dripping.

Blot the spot repeatedly, alternating the sponge with dry paper towels.

When the spot is gone, switch to blotting only with paper towels.

Place a fan in the area to circulate the air and expedite the drying process.

Eventually, you will have to have the carpets professionally cleaned because that urine smell will begin to take over your home. Yes, you can keep the carpeting looking great using this technique, but the urine will work its way into the padding and most home carpet scrubbing machines aren't quite powerful enough to get down deep enough to remove the urine that has seeped deep into the fibers.

Talking About Cleaning

Hello, my name is Kirk. Welcome to my website about cleaning. When I developed asthma, I had to figure out the best way to manage my health. Since my asthma worsened with exposure to allergens, I had to dedicate myself to deep cleaning my home on a regular basis. I learned a lot about keeping my home clean using natural products and methods. I also utilize cleaning services when I cannot perform the work myself. I would like to help others learn how to keep their home clean and tidy on their own and with professional help. I hope you will follow along to learn all you can about cleaning your home. Thanks for visiting.
