Did Your Basement Just Flood? What You Should Know

Blog

If you live in a flood zone or if your house just accidentally flooded due to something like a broken sprinkler, then you may be wondering what on earth you should do next. Luckily, this article will list a few things that you should know and a few steps that you should take. Read on to learn more.

Call Your Homeowner's Insurance

Depending on your homeowner's insurance policy, it may cover flood damage or at least cover a portion of the flood damage. If you have never filed a homeowner's insurance claim, you may not know what to expect. However, for the most part, they will usually send out an insurance adjuster who will assess the damage and determine what part of the water damage (if any) is covered by your insurance. As a tip, make sure that you take pictures of the damage right away.

Clean Everything Out

The last thing you want is to have a flooded basement that has old pictures and wedding albums floating around in it. One of the first things that you should do after a basement flood is go down to your basement and pull everything out, even if you don't care about it. By cleaning out all of your possessions, you can make it easier for the water damage restoration company to come and clean it up.

Call A Water Damage Restoration Company

After you hear back from your insurance, you can then call a water damage restoration company. A water damage restoration company will come and clean everything up after a flood and ensure that there is no mold or permanent damage. For instance, if the drywall in your basement was completely soaked and damaged, then the restoration company will typically pull out all of the drywall, remove any mold spores they see, and then you can hire a drywaller to come back into your basement and clean it up. Remember that the main goal of a water damage restoration company is to get rid of all of the water in your basement and any other problems caused by your flood.

If you recently just had your basement flood and are currently floating around in your basement on a raft (okay, not really), then you may be scratching your head wondering what on earth you should do next. Follow the basic tips listed in this article to help get everything cleaned up and squared away.

Talking About Cleaning

Hello, my name is Kirk. Welcome to my website about cleaning. When I developed asthma, I had to figure out the best way to manage my health. Since my asthma worsened with exposure to allergens, I had to dedicate myself to deep cleaning my home on a regular basis. I learned a lot about keeping my home clean using natural products and methods. I also utilize cleaning services when I cannot perform the work myself. I would like to help others learn how to keep their home clean and tidy on their own and with professional help. I hope you will follow along to learn all you can about cleaning your home. Thanks for visiting.
