Is Your Carpet Getting Discolored? 3 Ways To Prevent The Sun From Causing This Damage

Blog

Carpet looks good in most homes as long as it is well-maintained. For the most part, when you keep up with regular vacuuming, stain cleaning, and professional cleanings every 12 to 18 months, you should be able to enjoy a clean and attractive carpet for a long time. But, discoloration from the sun is one thing that can give you some trouble that no amount of cleaning can prevent, and you must find the solutions.

Install Darkening or Blackout Curtains

Some carpet materials, such as acrylic and polyester, are fairly resistant to sunlight damage. This is not enough, though. You must also do what you can  to prevent sun damage and fading from occurring. To combat this problem, it is a good idea to buy and install darkening or blackout curtains for all of your windows. This should be a top priority for windows that receive a lot of sunlight throughout the day.

Add Awnings to Doors and Windows

If you do not like the idea of adding heavy-duty curtains to your windows, you can always install awnings to both the doors and windows to reduce how much natural light hits your carpeting. It is possible to go for a small, basic awning that only gives you partial protection, or you can go all the way. Extended awnings will prevent you from ever having to worry about fading and it can improve your home's curb appeal. If you have skylights, there are a few solutions such as applying film or covering them up with shades.

Get Rid of Entry Windowed Doors

It is not uncommon for front doors and back doors to let light inside in the day. But, if your carpet is exposed when this happens, you may want to consider replacing these doors with windowless doors. It is not always easy to find coverage solutions for windowed doors or ones with stained glass. For glass sliding doors, you should be able to apply window tint to keep the light from causing any carpet damage.

Carpet usually lasts around a decade when given proper maintenance throughout the years. So, a faded carpet is not something that you should stress over, but it is a good thing to avoid. If you intend on installing carpet again in the future, you will appreciate being able to find a solution to the problem. Following these tips will help you keep your carpet attractive and damage-free. Contact a cleaner, like Superior Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Inc, for more help.

Talking About Cleaning

Hello, my name is Kirk. Welcome to my website about cleaning. When I developed asthma, I had to figure out the best way to manage my health. Since my asthma worsened with exposure to allergens, I had to dedicate myself to deep cleaning my home on a regular basis. I learned a lot about keeping my home clean using natural products and methods. I also utilize cleaning services when I cannot perform the work myself. I would like to help others learn how to keep their home clean and tidy on their own and with professional help. I hope you will follow along to learn all you can about cleaning your home. Thanks for visiting.
